First  like I already said before I am no expert on antennas but maybe some hints.

I always try with the junk I have and I always start to try it first on the 10m band. The 10m band has very small proportions in comparison to 80m and the cost will be limited.

Start with the simplest design.

You always can use my good friend Mr google (or others) to research as much as you can.

Maybe read some good HF antenna books in the wintertime.

Don’t let all the formulas you see in books or internet confuse you or discourage you.

Try to find someone that can help you in case you have some problems.

Hope for yourself :) you will have some problems when building it, that’s a good way to understand the system you are making.

Don’t be afraid to fail, many system are discovered that way.

A analyzer is a very good investment certainly if you build more antennas in the future.

Personally I don’t use them but there is some software where you can design your antenna.

A complex system can have many problems.

The simplest design is mostly the best system.
