Delta RX loop (FO0AAA)

08/10/2021

Installed everything yesterday.
The first conclusion is that this loop has a higher noise level than the other RX antennas.
I'll try to turn off that preamp now, but then I'll have to adjust some things internally.
Even the coax loop something this simple outperforms the delta rx loop at the moment.

The 12VDC switched on at the same time as the remote coax switch.

Future will show if improvements are possible to that delta rx.....

We'll see.

Everything has now been received.
With a bit of luck I can mount it today (if it doesn't rain).
Of course we opened all the boxes to see how RA0SMS made it (I like to learn)

As you can see it seems very well made.
Now I have to pay attention because I'm going to put 12VDC on the coax and I personally have never done that.
Now it's all done but my coax switches go to ground when not in use.
I think to switch the 12VDC together with 1 port of the coax switch.
If I then switch to the Delta rx loop with the coax switch, then the system should also receive its voltage on the coax.

seems like a simple and safe way for me.

More info will follow once everything is operational.

I wanted to make something simple that could offer some value to my station.
The intention is mainly to have a standard RX with which I can compare everything else.
The choice fell on the Delta RX loop. (link)

This time I was a bit lazier than usual and I came across the webshop of RA0SMS where he offers these for sale.

From the pictures it looks neatly built to me and it saves me time which is a bit limited at the moment.

These have just been ordered, it is also the first time that I order something from him.
As soon as everything is received I will definitely come back with the description of my version of the Delta RX loop.

In the meantime I can look for everything else.....

I must still have a fiber mast somewhere, coax will not be a problem and the antenna wire I will certainly have this also.
I'm guessing I'll start building sometime in mid-October although construction is a big word the most important thing is already done.

In the meantime, we have searched everything together and have already placed it.
Just waiting to join when the package arrives from Russia

It's not the best location but it's out of the way there. The intention is also only to have a reference RX antenna.
It is also a fixed direction 340°.
In the meantime I also made another one that is just an RX coax loop more details on that subpage.

I did find the fiberglass mast... it is now more than 15 years old and was broken at the top.
Now I just had to have the first 6m and the first 6m was still perfect.
As you can see in the picture everything is almost done.
Soon coax to dig in there and some control cable and then just wait for the rest to arrive by post

Rx antennas.... most systems are so simple to make and to make these almost cost free.

I already had most of it in stock, I only bought the boxes from RS0SMS to save me some time.
Total price for this RX was $48.

The link to his site is for this device is here

How well everything is made by RS0SMS I don't know yet, but as soon as everything is received I will give more info about this.

Don't forget the common mode choke...

it has a suppression of about 30 db on 160m.
