80m Triangle system

I used the 2 inverted L’s for about 6 months and as a builder

of antennas  why not try to get some more directions with a third inverted L.

Still some wondering if this would work because the east and west are 10 meter of distance, the south inverted L was around 12m distance from the west and east.

If I don’t try it I would never know if it could work at all.

The easy part was building again another inverted L for 80m after 2 already build that will not be the problem.

On a sunny day I started to build the third one.

I also needed a new switch system so I can switch all the different  directions.

The first test version!

With this you got North-West and North-East.

The new system

The updated switching system.

As you can see “I was not lying” but my goal was to make a  triangle system on 80m maybe I would still make that one but after a phone call to a good friend he told me that, it will be very difficult to make one and he is not sure if that would be worth the time and effort to make a real triangle on 80m.

So eventually I got three inverted L’s but only two will be active in each direction.

If you take the South and the West you can switch between North-West and South-East direction.

If you take the South and East you can switch between North-East and South-West direction.

If you take the West and the East you can switch between West or East direction.

Not a real triangle however I have 6 different directions with three inverted L’s

Yes, there are still better system like a full-size 4sq on 80m unfortunately I don’t have the space to build that system.

On the air I can tell you, I can work lots of DX on the 80m band and there are some operators who are using an Yagi on 80m. I can hear everything what they are hearing and work the same dx, mine will not always be 59 but that’s not my goal at all.

I don’t need a tower, no big rotator, I can switch directions in a second and the cost was around 200€ for the aluminum, relays and some small stuff. In my opinion my cost for dxing on 80m are low very low if you compare it with a Yagi.

The receiving part are great, low noise and directional and in wintertime I have the RX antennas to complete the system.
